Description

We present organic sage hydrolate for pharmaceuticals, which is based on the aerial mass of the plant Salvia sclarea. Outside the country, the product bears the name Clary Sage organic hydrolate for pharmaceuticals. The raw material comprises the flowering aerial stalk, while the woody stems are not included in the processing. The plantations are cared for according to organic practice, as synthetic agents and artificial feeding are excluded, and this determines the pure composition of the finished liquid. In sage, the glandular trichomes on the calyx of the flower form and store sclareol and linalyl acetate, which is why the aroma of the species remains easily recognizable. The aroma is of medium strength, and the bitter, herbal and spicy sides alternate in the profile of the liquid. The yield relies on steam distillation, and it is precisely this method that keeps the aromatic substances close to their original form in the living plant tissue of the stalk. The genus is part of the Lamiaceae family, and cultivation takes place on fields in Bulgaria with constant care for the plantations themselves during the growing season. The color lies between colorless and slightly yellowish. The yellowish hue is due to the pigments that the stalk transfers to the water during extraction. The liquid remains clear and uniform when viewed in daylight. The transparency is maintained throughout the entire depth of the liquid. The herbal side leads when the scent lingers longer, while the spicy note is perceptible at the end. In addition, the composition includes water and the volatile substances of the raw material, and no preservatives or colorants are added. Mainly the polar oxygenated volatile compounds of the flowering mass enter the aqueous phase. The herbal density of organic sage hydrolate comes from the aerial stalk.
